New Moon in Cancer – Thursday, 3rd July, 2008

A new moon again, they’re coming quickly. We are at the halfway mark of 2008. The goals to set for this new moon in the spirit of Cancer would be centred around home and family. Nurturing and compassionate goals for this month. If you look outside on these dark moon nights, so long as you don’t live in too built up an area, you can get a great view of the stars. I just had a bit of a gaze myself.

This New Moon has all the information you need about the other astrological influences occuring at this time. Careful not to be too smothering with your loved ones, I will too!

My tooth is fixed! Temporarily, but pain free, which is what matters to me right now. Thanks for all the well wishing.

Lazy Sunday

Today has been the laziest day I’ve had in a long while. I haven’t left the house and it’s been great. I had a couple of visitors, close people so no need to entertain, they were happy to hang out with me in my pj’s and sympathise about sore mouth. It was good and decadent. I had a long bath with geranium and lavender and got back into clean pj’s, but need to change my white sheets tomorrow because have dark chocolate crumbs that don’t look so great on the whiteness!

I think my mouth is much better tonight, I’ve taken my vitamins and cooked good food (if soft) for myself today and had a lot of rest. I’ve cancelled tomorrows plans, but I reckon by Tuesday I’ll be back on deck. All is well. I love my life really. I appreciate being able to take care of myself. I remember when my kids were younger, things lasted a lot longer cause you can’t really take time out when you are a mum. Now that my kids are older, they look after me. It’s awesome.

Teeth

I have a sore tooth today. I think it might be an abcess. It’s come at an inconvenient time! I don’t take painkillers very often, it’s probably years since I’ve had a panadol or anything like that. I’m fortunate enough that if I get an occasional headache, it’s usually dehydration and I haven’t drank enough water, so I guzzle some and have a nap till it goes away. I try to manage pain in other ways but today I have had to take a couple to have a sleep because I was getting upset by it. I find teeth problems the evilest of all. One of my main recurring nightmares is of all my teeth crumbling out of my head.

During my first few years of teaching I would get sick on the first day of the holidays and have a couple of days resting off a cold or general rundown health. This hasn’t happened as often lately but it’s not totally surprising after such a big term. A more experienced teacher told me to always make some plans for the holidays as a prevention to getting sick. I have made plans for Monday, so I hope I can get it handled by then. I might need to go to the doctor/dentist otherwise. Grrrrr – my least favourite places!

Ending the Term

I seriously think the teachers were more elated than students today as that final bell sounded. I was surprised at the reluctance of students to move out of the grounds. Granted many of them didn’t show up today though, so it was only the keen ones that were there to farewell the term.

Parent teacher interviews last night were a big challenge. I felt incoherent and tired after a full on day. I couldn’t even exercise when I got home, I was totally spent and ended up having a protein drink for dinner just so I could take my vitamins and go to bed. This morning with the waking thought of last day of term, I felt totally renewed. Today was easy to get through with the holidays ahead. Long terms are ridiculous and should be banned. Thank goodness the next semester is broken up evenly.

I have some lovely plans for myself and am anticipating a very delightful break.

Two More Sleeps….

Until school ends for this term! We are all counting the hours at this point. I have parent teacher interviews tomorrow night. It’s been a long and hectic term. The students look tired and the teachers are wearing down. One of our teachers has ended the term today, with no remaining voice.

Tonight on bus duty whilst I was chatting to kids a couple of them said they weren’t looking forward to the holidays. One said they were boring. I think we are making school too much fun for them if they can’t appreciate their holidays!

1 2 3 4 Feist

I’ve enjoyed Feist lately. I love ‘My Moon My Man’. The choreography in 1 2 3 4, is awesome.

Videos to DVD

Up until my daughter went to secondary school, she was a fabulous performer. She was in the drama ensemble of the State Schools Extravaganza ‘Quest of the Birds’. She was a voice of one of the puppets and I was in total awe of her as she performed in front of such a large audience at Rod Laver Arena.

We also have a video of her performing at Movie World and in another primary school play where she played a villian with a Russian accent. She hated that role. She had to sing a song called ‘Bad Girl’ and she was never a bad girl – the opposite. She did a remarkable job though – small children would stop her in the street and call her ‘Olga’.

I attempted to show her boyfriend the videos recently. They were all grainy. I haven’t had them out for ages. I was really disappointed. None of the videos played very well. I have sent them off to have them converted to DVD. I just hope they work cause they are my treasures.

Midwinter’s Eve

Its the longest night here in Australia tonight, winter solstice.  The great thing is that the days will be getting longer from this point on. It’s a turning point. This occasion is not marked in a big way here in the southern hemisphere, but the link to the wikipedia article lists the many types of celebrations that occur around the world. The theme seems to me about acknowledging the life/death/life cycle.

It would have been a good opportunity to have a big clean-up and throw out a pile of things. I had no time for that recently and in fact my home is in disarray and chaos. I hoped to correct that today, but have done nothing! I have been self indulgent today. I’ve slept a fair bit, gone out for lunch and just pleased myself. Tom is with his dad and is recovering well. I think I have been doing some inner cleaning out though and have written mountains in my private journal this week.

There is one week to go till the end of the semester. It’s been a long term and lots of changes at school. I think I have paced myself ok, but I am tired and ready for a break.

Swollen

Tom’s face is swollen. We went to a suburban clinic today to have all four of his wisdom teeth removed. I feel relieved to be home and have it behind me. I had my wisdom teeth out in two incidents. It was ugly and horrible. I was sick and ‘like a foul-mouthed drunk’ according to those who were looking after me, when I was coming out of it. I mostly only remember a big cloud of pain. So I have been anxious about this for Tom, with the long drive home in mind as well.

He has been in pain, but has slept most of the time and seems to be coping ok. I didn’t see any bad behaviour from him, and the nurses were all still smiling when they asked me to come in and see him, so I’m guessing it all went well.

I felt pretty sooky about it all to be honest. I think it’s easier to be in pain yourself than watch someone you love suffer. He had to sign all his consent forms etc because he is 18 now, so that was a bit of a reality check for me too. It’s easy to forget because he’s still at school, but these reminders keep popping up!

I’m off to have a nap cause his dad is here to hang out with him for a bit. We had to leave really early this morning.

Wisdom Teeth

My son has to have all four wisdom teeth removed. I had mine taken out in two episodes, but he’s having them all at once. It makes me sick to think about to be honest.

On the weekend, due to our ‘in and out’ communications issues, I left him a note. I wrote: Tom, How about leaving a note to say where you are? I am at the movies. Love Mum.

To which he replied: Joh, There’s this amazing new technology called the MOBILE PHONE. Let’s use that instead!! P.S. Tim called.

Funny thing about the exchange was that he wrote it in a note. He always calls me Joh when he’s being witty. I still like notes. I’ve no idea why. When I get home and there’s no son, I look for a note, then I check my phone, once I’ve found it. I guess the novelty of the ‘amazing new technology called the MOBILE PHONE’ has worn off on me. Despite his poor opinion of my communication skills, I hope the removal of his wisdom teeth goes ok.
