About
I am a 40 something woman living in regional Victoria, Australia. I have two offspring that I really can’t call children anymore, more independent young people. (2010: both have left the nest: daughter is studying in Melbourne, son is living on Hamilton Island) I have wonderful people in my life including my family and friends. I feel very grateful for the life I have in this affluent country and believe we have a duty to make the world a better place, living in such a free and prosperous place. ( I am living with a gorgeous man who shares his three amazing children with me, making every second weekend a new adventure. He is a brilliant chef and a great conversationalist – can life get any better?)
I am a Secondary School teacher in a large Catholic College. I teach years 7 to 9 and love my job. My current teaching load for 2008 is English, Humanities, Enterprise (Digital Storytelling) and Integrated Projects (Mosaics). I will also be a Year 9 Co-ordinator in 2008. (In 2010 am working at the senior campus teaching English, IT, Local History and Leadership. I am a House Co-ordinator)
My interests are reading, journaling, travelling, internet, astrology, home-making, health, philosophy, popular culture, systems of meaning and belief, film and music. I love learning. I am currently and possibly for the rest of my life, learning Astrology, Feng Shui, massage, mosaics, photography and film-making.
I started blogging to learn about what my students were up to. It has become an interest that has given me a lot of pleasure. I have always kept a journal and find this to be a more disciplined way to keep a record of who I am/was. My vision for my blog is that my as yet unborn grandchildren will get to read about me and know me from this blog. I like writing and this satisfies that urge. Readers are the ones who really motivate and bring my blog to life. I love getting responses and feedback from those who take the time to read my blog.
Brief Outline of Joh’s Life Experience
I was born on a dairy farm and moved to the town where I currently live (although it has become a city since those times) when I was 6. I am the eldest child of 6 children. I have a large and wonderful extended family. I had close relationships with my grandparents, who have both now left the planet.
I completed HSC as it was then called and went to study a Bachelor of Arts with no idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up. I spent a wild year and then decided I needed money, hence a job. I continued studying through many jobs ranging from asparagus cutting to having a couple of small businesses in the soft furnishings industry. I got married, had two children, got divorced, moved house over 10 times, but still I kept studying!
I’ve completed many courses. I had a large ‘personal growth’ phase where I went to every new age, flakey course or practice that I could find. I have read libraries of self help books. Some of them were really good. I have attended a gym most of my life or participated in some kind of sport or exercise. I’ve had a couple of addictions and all except for smoking are in the past now. That’s next! I have completed formal courses in Feng Shui, Counselling, Massage, Writing and Editing as well as lots of professional development in my many jobs.
Twenty jobs later, I became a teacher at 35! It is well and truly the favourite job I have ever had. I have always enjoyed working with young people and love their passion and potential as well as their boundless energy.
I have been online since the early 90’s when I had a Compuserve account. I think the Internet is a wonderful place of opportunity and couldn’t wait for it to kick off, imagining lots of possibilities and progress we can as humanity make with this great tool.
