Colder than Before

It’s really cold here. I think my weekend with Tom on Hamilton Island has made it seem even colder! I enjoyed looking at all the photos and clips his friends captured of the weekend on facebook. Good times!

After working through the summer in the kitchen I thought I would never wear anything long sleeved in a kitchen, EVER! Today I did. It’s not even winter yet. Our delicious food helped though. It all smells so much better and tastes every bit as good as it smells. This morning I was home doing a last minute book keep for the BAS return (due tomorrow) and as soon as I hit the arcade I could smell the food and knew I was heading in the right direction.

It has really taken me until today to come back to earth after the weekend. I have had early nights the past two nights but I feel quite good now and back into my routines.

I Dream of Rearranging

Today one of my past students visited me at work. It’s always lovely to see them. He asked me what I was doing for Easter. The first time someone has asked me what I’m doing for my now drastically reduced holiday period. I realised what I would really like to do and what I usually do at Easter holidays is stay home and rearrange. In fact if I look back on the past that is what I’ve usually done at Easter. If I were to do a timeline on rennovations to my home, painting, etc it would often be at this time of the year. I like this time of year. I really love Autumn light.

It’s when I set myself up for winter and each sunny day is appreciated. It requires a rethink of living space.I want to move our furniture so we are facing the fire, instead of having it to the side. I want more blankets draped around the lounge room. I want a rug on the tiles. I want to prepare for the colder times ahead.I want to prune the summery things from my wardrobe and make sure I have the warm clothes available.

Daylight savings ends Sunday. I’m looking forward to winter. It’s more comfortable working in a kitchen when it’s not hot outside.

Loving Autumn

Here today it was one of those fresh Autumn days where the sky is blue and the air is comfortable. I walked the kids to the park. I enjoyed the smells of lawn, roses and a variety of trees that met me each corner I turned. We met a lady with two dogs on our way to the park. The kids had a ball throwing balls and having them retrieve and return to them. I think the lady was happy with that, because it saved her lots of energy. Energy the both the kids and dogs had, but she and I perhaps didn’t. When she asked me if they were my children, cause they were so delightful, I really wanted to claim them, but honesty got the better of me.

I spent some time today washing. The clothes dried quickly and I got most of my laundry done. I had piles of it because I had a big clean-out upstairs and changed all the linen in the house. So in between reading Pamela Allen picture books, playing hide and seek and reading some of my current reading obsession, I washed, dried and folded clothes.  It was really convenient the day was so good for drying clothes.

When the kids returned to their mum’s we went to work to do some preparation for the week ahead. I love our Sunday nights in the kitchen. I learn heaps because there is no-one around and no pressure, so I get to ask more questions and Darin tells me heaps of interesting information. Like tonight I learned that a potage is soup that is thickened with it’s own ingredients. I watched Darin make chicken jus tonight. To be honest, before I met him I didn’t even know the word jus. We tested out our new menu item – hamburgers! –It’s a whole new world to me and I love it. There are so many things to learn about food. I had no idea. We can also have the music up much louder cause there is no one around:-).

Fridge Full

Darin has the weekend off and the kids are here. It’s been a while since he’s been home for the weekend. He has cooked here this afternoon and my fridge is now bulging with yummy food and my stomach is full of dinner that was amazing.
My parents took off today on their winter escape. It’s great to seeing them enjoy this lifestyle. I slept in this morning and thought I had missed them, but luckily bumped into them in the supermarket.
I feel full of gratitude for my life today. This afternoon was a beautiful sunny autumn one and all the huge trees around were showing their colours. The air and light in autumn inspires contentment in me. The kids were playing happily and I got a wonderful text message from Tom. These are the days:-)

Hump Day Already!

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. This week has flown! So much happening lately. Today was one of those sunny autumn ones. It’s the most comfortable and magic I reckon in late autumn on a sunny day. I ate lunch outside and lapped up the warmth.

My little Astra is great. I love it. I haven’t driven a manual car for a long time, probably around 10 years, so I feel like a beginner driver. It’s probably a good thing because sometimes my driving is a little ‘unconscious’ and having gears to focus on has made me totally aware again.

I’m getting closer to this weekend and restoring order in my head and home. The events of the past weeks have led to clutter and chaos and I am longing to have some time to tidy, clean and think. Spiders have taken over corners of window sills and other great hiding spots. The laundry has turned into the holder of the majority of our clothes and unfortunately most of them are in the unwashed basket. There are little stacks of mail lying around in various states. I don’t know where things are and I don’t like that feeling.

I need to get back to the marathon correction plan at work. My desk is as out of whack as my home. I’m ready to roll my sleeves up now and sort through it all.
