Bike Riding in the Sunshine

Today we went on a long walk along Traralgon Creek with the kids in the sunshine. It was beautiful. I love Victory park on a sunny winter day. It is a great park and the creek was running well from all the rain we’ve had. The kids enjoyed riding over bridges and along the paths. We stopped and watched some kids in the skate park. There were some real littlies on scooters, they were very brave. I enjoy watching our kids improve thier confidence on their bikes. The weekend’s weather was very enjoyable. We had long walks/rides both Saturday and Sunday and it was great to be out in it.

I have my laptop back! I haven’t spent that much time over the weekend on it, but it is good to have it back. It was too sunny to be couped up inside this weekend – have to get my vitamin D whilst it’s there:).

Mulligatawny Soup and Jimmy Barnes

Yesterday was unexpectedly lovely. I discovered a new favourite soup. It was delicious. It’s quite handy to have Darin around suggesting things to try and showing me how to make them, as well as chopping the onions and cabbage really finely for me. He does that so fast too.

After our soup we went for a walk down the street and as we were going through the big park in the middle of town, there was a concert. The last act, Jimmy Barnes, was about to start. I had intended to buy $60 tickets to the event when I saw it advertised in the local paper, but forgot about it. So we had a few cans outside the see through fence and enjoyed the singer for nothing.

I love that I can walk down the street. It is one of the things I like most about living where I do. As the crowds left and negotiated their cars out of packed parking spaces, I strolled home. I wish I’d had my camera with me… I have never seen that park so full of people.

Afternoon Walk

After school today we went for a walk down the street. I love afternoons like this. The rain we’ve had has made the creek alive and the grass green and the afternoon lights it up.

We came across a bewildered traveller from Korea (can’t remember whether it was North or South). He was looking for a town 30 minutes drive away, standing on the edge of the highway. We explained to him that he couldn’t walk there and pointed him toward the railway station. I gave him my phone number in case he was stranded.

The afternoon sunlight was beautiful and the walk along the creek, even with the magpies threatening to swoop, was the highlight of my busy day.

Now Is Surprising

Today was totally different to yesterday. Much better in fact. It was still busy and I still had to deal with things I don’t like but I chose to be present in each moment and this made the day full of lovely surprises for me.

My mentor, I hadn’t seen for a year or so, dropped in and visited us at lunchtime. Although I had half a lunch to spend with him, it’s always comforting to see him and recall the time and effort he put into supporting me in my first years of teaching. It reminds me where I started.

A stroll through the park in town tonight, the sunset as backdrop and leaves were piled up perfectly to scrunch through, brought back lovely recollections of Ella and Andy. I spent too long at the shopping centre and found a cosy new top in a shade I was drawn too. I bumped into a parent who was happy with how I’m handling her child. Refreshing!

Headed in a different direction to come home, since it was dark. I noticed my son’s car parked near his work. Decided to shop a bit longer and get him to run me home. I read 37 Days:Flip the Question and it worked a treat on the work scenario’s that have been plaguing me, lately. Can’t wait to share it tomorrow. I felt like I was flipping the scenario with Tom for a start and it felt good.

At the supermarket in the line I noticed a basket with a little dog in it. It was refreshing to see this little puppy’s head pop out the top. Her owner had a tiny pink heart on her neck. I wanted to ask her if it was a birthmark or a tattoo. I decided it didn’t matter, it was cool and unexpected.

I lingered out the front of the bookshop Tom works in looking at the books in the window. I visualised ‘Surprise!’ in the window, because I know it will be there soon. I spotted some other great books I look forward to reading once this season of report writing ends. I watched a lady sitting in her car arguing on her mobile phone, looking pretty cranky and I was pleased it wasn’t me.

I enjoyed long chats with friends tonight. Jane and I made plans for long nights of wine and stories, when she returns. Wilma and I searched our memory banks for a supplier we used in our business over 10 years ago and discovered a few snippets that will hopefully be enough to recover the contact.

All in all a pleasing day.

Rainy Day

We are getting good rain here today. Luckily I walked down town early because since then the rain has really settled in. I have in my possession Season 7 (the final season) of ‘The Gilmour Girls’ so I am going to snuggle in and watch it this afternoon. My son is at work so I’ll be able to catch a few episodes before I go to pick him up.

I had vivid unpleasant dreams last night and so I just had a nap, to try to recoup a little sleep time. I feel decadent that I am able to do this when I read Cerebral Mum’s post today. I remember when I was sleep deprived. It was tough. I had another bad dream this afternoon though. I woke having a little weep myself. I guess I’ve had a pretty good week, so it’s not so bad.

The weekends are sometimes too relaxing for me, especially wet ones. Lorelai and Rory will cheer me up!

Stroll through Morwell

Yesterday I had to go to Bunnings to get some more tiles for my mosaic. I have nearly finished putting all the tiles on and I am pleased about this. Andy suggested we go for a walk. I haven’t been exercising much lately so I agreed it would be good. We left from Mid Valley and walked along a drain or a creek, under bridges and through really lovely groups of trees. It was a really pretty view of Morwell and it dispelled some of the impressions I have of Morwell.
I lived in Morwell in the mid eighties. I shared a house with friends close to the town centre. It was when Morwell was less abandoned and I enjoyed my time there.
Unfortunately the battery on my digital camera was flat or I would have taken more photo’s. I had to use my phone camera. There were some really tranquil and pleasant pockets along the walk. It reminds me of the book I love by Thomas Moore “The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life”. In the book he talks about little corners of the world that are magical and special and good for your soul. I think that walk was good for my soul and I don’t know why I so often resist things, which are good for me.

I also took this photo, of some mushrooms growing. I don’t know if you can see them properly. They were the edible mushrooms not the magic ones! I remember around this time of the year going out into the paddocks around Drouin East near my Auntie Angela’s house and coming back with buckets of mushrooms. I really enjoyed it. You don’t really hear of kids going mushrooming much now. I wonder why?

Not going to the Park

Earlier in my life, I lived in the Berwick area on and off for around 10 years. I must have driven past Wilson Botanical Park literally 100s of times and never took the opportunity to visit. Today I was visiting old friends in that part of the world and my best friend and partner had an appointment there. It has changed heaps. I don’t know why but I decided we should go to Wilson B. P. for a check out. It was amazing. A really beautiful space in the heart of the hustle and bustle of an overgrown village. If you live in that area you really should check it out and spend some time there.
You can see forever. It is refreshing to be out of the rat race and it is just delightful.
We shouldn’t take these things for granted because our wild spaces are shrinking. There were very few people there, which is amazing considering how busy the rest of Berwick is. I hope that it always remains a sanctuary for the wildlife and people who do need to see nature.

A good day was had by all

I loved today. It was one of those flow days when things fall into place and plans work for everyone. Here is a photo of a corner of my home that I particularly like at just that time when the sun comes in the window.

I made a bit of progress on a project I am working on today and found a few useful tools that will add a lot of value I think.

I rearranged appointments successfully so everyone got their needs met – I love it when that happens.

I made some good decisions about my mosaic. I haven’t put them into action and I realised today there is not a hope of completing it before going back to work on Monday, but that’s ok, because I want to do it properly. I am getting clearer and clearer about how I want it to be. I’m in no rush to get it right. I’m enjoying the process.

I’m feeling happy, creative and very grateful about my life. Just like I was when my daughter Asha rang to say she had a surplus of chocolate and could we help her out. Here’s a picture of Tom with a mouth full.

I went for a lovely walk tonight and bumped into an old friend who I discovered lives just around the corner. It made me realise how far I have come in the last 10 years and how much I love my life.

I enjoyed window shopping. I prefer that to shopping in the daytime. The crowds of shoppers don’t allow you to stand and stare. The lighting always makes things look better at night.

Daylight Saving – don’t you just love it.

Tonight we went for a walk down town at around 7.00pm. We walked through the park. It was mild and the light was perfect. I really appreciate the summer and daylight saving. It gives life a leisurely feel. There is time to enjoy the stroll down town, and still achieve a bit of housework and cook a worthwhile meal after work.
I had a good day at work and met my final class. The students were all respectful and well behaved and I hope that I can ensure the classes are interesting and challenging enough to keep them this way. I do love teaching. I know I can build a good relationship with the students. I enjoy learning and improving my skills and knowledge with them. I love getting to know them as people and sharing in this small year of their lives. It is a real privilege I think to be a teacher.
