Blissful Weekend

Just when I thought winter had crept in, this weekend was a sunny, welcome one. It kick-started for me on Friday when Asha surprised me at school bringing a box of delicious muffins for me for lunch. I got to show her my new office and we caught up. She popped around after school and I am really pleased she is going to be around for a couple of weeks while she does her placement here.

Darin got home early so we had a great Friday night together. The kids came Saturday morning and I have enjoyed their company for the weekend. I love hearing them talk to their nanny in Sydney on Skype. Technology is so fantastic for keeping people in touch. We went to the park and enjoyed the weather. We fed the ducks and they had another fish, this time no carps lost their lives. It brightens my time having these three little people around with their unique personalities.

I talked to Tom tonight. He sounds well. I saw some photos on facebook taken by one of his friends who went to visit. I miss him. This is probably the longest time I have gone without seeing him. He won’t be home till after his birthday now.

This week will be busy. We have a Marist basketball carnival at school so there will be plenty on. I feel very happy at work now. I got a laptop from school on Thursday. Now I can leave mine at home and not have to lug one around as much. I think the improvement in technology at school has also added to my enjoyment. I have been waiting for this for so long. On Friday one of my students created an excellent documentary for his Local History project. It excites me to think what they will be able to do now they have the tools. I think there is greater independence and engagement in their learning.

Drenched

I got soaked walking from my office to my car after school today. I was saturated to the bone and the coolness of that has stayed with me all night. I have been super active and handled lots of tasks that I’ve been too hot and bothered to attend to all week. I was on bus duty tonight and watched the dark clouds get closer and closer until as the last bus pulled in the rain dropped on the few remaining in the yard.

I’ve been back at school over a week. I like it. The senior campus is different and so far in a good way. I feel very indulged to have an air conditioned office. The students have been most pleasant. I am glad I took this risk no matter how threatening it seemed at times.

On a personal level this week has been crazy. Unmentionable happenings have settled, and all I can say is I am glad they are behind me. Issues that have been lingering since April last year have been resolved this week, but not without a share of worry. I am just glad everything has turned out as I hoped and I feel a level of freedom from stress that I haven’t felt for a while.

My daughter has found and began to settle into a new place, which is another source of relief for me. I hope to visit her on Sunday. We have Darin’s kids this weekend, yet I am sure they won’t miss me for a few hours on Sunday! I really can’t wait to see her new place and make sure she doesn’t need anything.

I’ve changed ISPs this week so anyone emailing to my optusnet address … Í won’t get it! You can use the contact form on this blog if you want to find me:-)

Stormy

It’s the first night I have been home alone for quite a while, not that I’m complaining. Darin has gone to celebrate his son’s 8th birthday with his kids and their mum.  I was planning all kinds of things… until the power went out. It was all thunder and lightening and possibly even hail, not that I went out to check or anything. It was a bit eerie at one point, just wind and sirens. This year has been kind of insane with all the extremes of weather. I had a candlelit bath and by the time I was ready to get out the power was back. So all is good.

Briefly…

It’s hard to believe but I have the heater on tonight and warm socks. This summer was intense which gave me the feeling it would never end. I kind of hoped it wouldn’t until everything started burning. Then it felt almost wrong to hope for a sunny day. It’s raining now though and I believe the fires have been dampened, so all is well.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered a new pizza shop. I’ve had four pizza’s from there since then. They are very good. Last night I had very delicious risotto cooked for me. I am eating very well lately and being quite spoilt. I haven’t cooked for myself for a while. I’m loving it and life in general right now.

Tamboritha clip

Finally got this clip uploaded today of the light snow at Tamboritha on the 21st of last month. It was very chilly. You can’t see it too well. The best sight of it was when we were playing the stalk the lantern game and shone the powerful spotlight up into the moonless sky. At that point I thought I was about to lose some of my extremities though, so I didn’t appreciate the view as much as I could have.

I have also put on Revver a clip of the drive up there, if you are interested you can compere the weather!

Snow at Mt Baw Baw

I’m not surprised to hear there is snow at Baw Baw. It’s been so freezing here lately. We’ve just had one of Tom’s mates relate to us his amazing day of snowboarding with his brother. Apparently there is a new road that connects from Rawson to Baw Baw (south face road)as well, so that could be worth checking out. I didn’t get to the snow last year. If you want more information about it the Mount Baw Baw website.

On my facebook today, in the updates, one of my friends mentioned sunburn and the other snowboarding. It’s funny to think the other half of the world is enjoying summer whilst I try to keep myself warm with extra blankets and so forth. Today I was much warmer as I wore an extra couple of layers.

It Rained

I’ve said before how unpleasant I find winter, yet last night the sound of the rain was really comforting. I felt like I hadn’t enjoyed the sound of rain and water running down the drainpipes for a long time. It was a little windy. Not ‘I hope the roof doesn’t blow off’ windy, but just a little windy.  There is nothing better than lying in bed listening to the sounds of coldness outside. It was snuggly and relaxing. I was warm and could lie in for a little while extra due to the student free report writing day.

I finished my reports today, quicker than I expected, so all is well in my world.

Winter Uniforms

Our students have switched to winter uniforms at school this week. This involves wearing a long sleeved shirt and tie. If today is any indication I am going to spend a significant amount of time, showing kids how to do up ties, reminding them to do them up and other general nagging about the dress code. It drives me nuts and is the least enjoyable part of being a co-ordinator. Why do they feel a need to walk around half undressed? Shirts unbuttoned and ties at half mast. It can’t be about individuality, cause they all want to do it.

I’ve been irritable today. It’s possibly just feeling like a nagging mother, yet perhaps the ‘w’ word - winter, is creeping up. I had better get on to that Winter Survival kit, I suggested when I read Develop a Strategic Plan for Happiness: The Clearing Space. I’ve been thinking about what kinds of things, besides chocolates and soup, would make winter more tolerable. Please feel free to make some suggestions for me.

Wind and Rain

Today my buddy Rhonda turned up early, well around 12.00, but I’d just got out of bed! I’d had a bit of a sleep deprived night. Tossed and turned and even rearranged the position of my bed in my room for better feng shui at around 4.00am, with too much on my mind. Many changes and unbloggable things happening in my mind right now. In the daylight I looked at the bed and realised how disordered it was, and whether or not it was better, it wasn’t going to stay at that angle, out of alignment with everything, no matter what the compass told me. It can’t be good feng shui if it screams ridiculous.

Rhonda and I took our children out to lunch, poorly dressed though they were, looking stunning in their youth anyway. We had to sit outside the new cafe in town, cause inside was packed. We had an amazing waitress who was highly responsive to our requests as well as our humour. Almost without warning the wind blew up and umbrellas were tossed around and tumbled over parked cars. Chairs crashed over and lots of smaller bits and peices flew by. Lucky we’d finished eating.

When I got home the power was off. That meant all my intentions were brought to a standstill. I headed up to my parents on the powered side of town and caught up with them and went to Rhonda’s to watch a film. I had to drive through town with all the traffic lights out and my son worked in a dark shop for a few hours this afternoon. When I left Rhonda’s the rain had set in. I’m glad I enjoyed the warmth and sunshine yesterday, and fortunately the power was returned to my part of town, so I had the use again of my phone, lights, internet, heater, stove, electric kettle and the vacuum cleaner. Not that I intend using the latter now!

Night Swim

My friend, who has an amazing salt water pool in her backyard, phoned me tonight around 7.30 to see if I wanted to come for a swim. It has been a hot, busy day and when I got home from school, I had a nap. At first I said ‘no’. I felt like I couldn’t be bothered and I hadn’t exercised yet. As we chatted the idea came to me that swimming is exercise. I went.

I feel wonderful. It was the perfect thing to do. I came home in my cool wet bathers, it’s still quite warm, and have achieved triple what I would have if I hadn’t taken the hour or so out for a swim. It was delicious to feel cool again after such a sticky hot day.
